From Yuri On Ice to Steven Universe, its apparent that the world of animation has noticeably evolved in its depiction of compelling LGBTQ+ characters and narratives. Yet the visibility of this mainstream queer representation in animation, is still on a relatively obscure level. This continuous lack of diversity in mainstream media, is simply one of the reasons why the indie creative scene is so paramount within the world of modern art.
A brilliant example of this is reflected within Alex Myung’s short animated film titled Arrival. Independently written, directed and animated by Alex Myung, this gorgeous short film presents an unapologetic gay love story, that’s actually lead by queer people of color. The concept closely follows Alex Myung’s own experience in coming out and embracing his sexual identity.
This rare breed of animated brilliance, was entirely funded through KickStarter four years ago. Now after years of tireless production and film festival touring, Arrival has finally arrived publicly online. You can experience Arrival in its full glory, by checking out the links below.
